Welcome to Canadian Museums & Heritage—a venture that started as a project and evolved into a full-fledged initiative as we dove deeper into the cultural landscape’s needs. As avid travelers and culture enthusiasts, we quickly realized how scattered the information about museums, galleries, heritage sites, and other cultural institutions was. Too often, valuable details were buried or difficult to find, making it hard for people to truly engage with the rich tapestry of Canadian culture. This realization sparked our mission: to create a centralized hub that makes cultural exploration accessible and convenient for everyone. With that vision in mind, our adventure began.

In 2020, the world changed with the COVID-19 pandemic, and we saw firsthand how museums and other cultural sites were deeply affected. The lockdowns and safety measures meant a sharp decline in visitors, putting many beloved institutions—museums, galleries, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, and archives—at risk of closing their doors permanently.

As devoted museum enthusiasts, we couldn’t stand by and watch this happen. Museums are not just buildings filled with artifacts; they are storytellers, educators, and guardians of our collective heritage. Each museum plays a crucial role in preserving Canada’s diverse and rich history, and we felt it was our duty to protect and promote these cultural treasures for current and future generations.

Leveraging our experience as social communicators, producers, and directors with a global background in media and advertising, we launched Canadian Museums as a way to support and uplift the cultural institutions that define our identity as Canadians. In May 2020, amidst the pandemic’s uncertainty, we began with social media campaigns based out of Vancouver, gradually expanding our reach to support museums across the country.

Our mission went beyond simply announcing that museums were open. We wanted to make the experience more enticing, informative, and engaging. We began by introducing technological innovations, such as virtual museum tours, 3D object scanning, augmented reality, and even a 24-hour streaming channel on YouTube dedicated to showcasing Canada’s cultural heritage. This channel remains one of our proudest achievements—a free resource for all Canadian museums and heritage organizations to promote learning and culture to a global audience.

We didn’t stop there. We’ve since collaborated with students from top universities such as the University of Toronto, Simon Fraser University, and the City University of London. This partnership not only gives students opportunities to work on real-world projects but also benefits the cultural institutions by integrating cutting-edge technologies and ideas. These symbiotic relationships are helping museums modernize their operations, attract more visitors, and stay relevant in a rapidly changing world.

Our vision is closely tied to the progress of society as a whole. We are proud to take the lead in uniting museums, galleries, zoos, aquariums, botanical gardens, living history sites, and archives under one digital roof. Our goal is to be a powerful voice for these institutions, amplifying their activities, events, and educational programs so that they can thrive in today’s digital age.

At Canadian Museums & Heritage, we believe that the success of these institutions is our success. Your support—whether through visits, donations, or spreading the word—helps ensure that future generations of Canadians and international visitors will have access to world-class cultural experiences. We are committed to making these experiences immersive, interactive, and in line with the times we live in.

Join us on this journey as we celebrate and preserve Canada’s incredible heritage. Together, we can secure a vibrant and culturally enriched future.

Long live Canada! 🍁
