The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is Canada's oldest and most
comprehensive maritime museum, located on the historic Halifax
waterfront.
Our collection tells the story of Nova Scotia's deep
connection to the sea, from the age of sail to modern times.
Home to the world's finest collection of Titanic artifacts, the
museum preserves the memory of Halifax's role in the 1912
disaster. We also feature exhibits on the Halifax Explosion, the
Age of Steam, small craft, shipwrecks, and the Canadian Navy.
Our waterfront location provides stunning views of Halifax
Harbour, where visitors can explore historic vessels moored
alongside the museum, including CSS Acadia, a 1913 hydrographic
survey ship. The museum serves as a vital cultural institution,
preserving maritime heritage for future generations.
The Maritime Museum of the Atlantic is located at 1675 Lower
Water Street on Halifax's historic waterfront. The museum is
easily accessible by public transit, with Metro Transit bus
route 7 stopping directly in front of the museum.
Visitors arriving by car can find metered street parking along
Lower Water Street and in nearby surface lots. The Halifax
Waterfront Boardwalk provides a scenic walking route connecting
the museum to other downtown attractions.
The museum is wheelchair accessible with ramps and elevators.
The CSS Acadia, moored beside the museum, has limited
accessibility due to its historic nature. Free admission on
certain days - check website for details.
