At Canadian Museums (“we,” “our,” “the Platform”), we are deeply committed to data sovereignty, security, and transparency regarding the handling of information from our users and partner institutions. To ensure your complete peace of mind, this Privacy Policy is designed in full compliance with Canada’s Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). It outlines how we collect, use, store, and protect data on our primary portal (www.canadian-museums.ca).

1. Our Role as a Platform (The Ticketing Flow)

Canadian Museums acts as a national directory and cultural marketplace. It is important to clarify that we do not process financial transactions or sell tickets directly on this website.

When a user decides to purchase tickets through an institution’s profile, they are seamlessly redirected to our associated ticketing ecosystem, Innova Tickets. All payment transactions are securely processed through Stripe, a third-party payment processor that complies with the highest PCI-DSS security standards. Canadian Museums never accesses, stores, or processes credit card numbers or direct banking information.

2. Information We Collect

We collect information at two distinct levels: for general platform visitors and for cultural institutions and heritage organizations.

A. General Visitors and Users:

  • Browsing Data: We use tools like Google Analytics and industry-standard cookies to understand site traffic and improve the user experience (e.g., analyzing which museum pages are most visited).

  • Subscriptions: If you choose to subscribe to our newsletter, we collect your email address, which is securely managed and protected through our marketing partner, Brevo.

B. Cultural Institutions & Heritage Organizations: To create and manage profiles, we collect data through our registration form and administrative dashboard. This information is strictly divided into two categories:

  • Public Information (For the Profile): This includes the institution’s name, address, admission prices, operating hours, social media links, photographs, facilities, services, and general contact data.

  • Private Information (Strictly for Internal Use): We collect sensitive operational data to understand the institution’s needs and provide better B2B support. This includes:

    • Direct names and email addresses of the Director/Manager, Curator, and Marketing Director.

    • Operational details: number of employees (full-time/part-time), volunteer count, general financial condition, interest in ticketing services, and venue rental information.

  • PRIVACY GUARANTEE: This “Private Information” is strictly confidential. It will never be published on the platform, shared publicly, or sold to third parties.

3. How We Use Your Information

  • To display rich, accurate profiles of cultural and heritage institutions to the general public.

  • To communicate directly and professionally (B2B) with leadership regarding updates, Innova Tickets integration, and support opportunities.

  • To assess the operational and financial realities of our partners. We collect this sensitive data specifically to identify institutions that may benefit from our free tools, tailored support, or community-wide initiatives funded through our ecosystem, allowing us to uplift and reinvest in the broader museum and heritage sector.

  • To analyze aggregated trends within the Canadian cultural sector to continuously improve our services.

4. Data Storage and Sovereignty

Your data stays home. Our servers are located in Canada, hosted by Canadian providers to guarantee strict data sovereignty. We maintain regular, secure, and isolated backups to ensure that the information of our cultural heritage is never lost or compromised.

We do not share, sell, rent, or trade your personal information or the private information of your institution with outside agencies, corporations, or other platforms for commercial purposes.

5. Your Rights and Control

We respect your right to privacy. Authorized representatives of our partner institutions may request to review, correct, update, or delete their profile and internal data at any time. General users may unsubscribe from our email communications at any time.
